Whether fixed to the front or the back of teeth, “traditional” wire and bracket braces now come in a variety of fun and discreet options. At The Dental Surgery in London we can advise on all your available treatment options.
About Fixed Braces
Fixed Braces are no longer just for kids!
Braces are no longer just for children, adult orthodontics is a big part of what we do. Occasionally, fixed braces may even be preferred. These braces are directly bonded to the outside surfaces of the teeth and may be clear or metallic (with or without colours which may be changed at each visit).
Labial braces
These are the “traditional” braces you see on the outside of teeth. They are directly bonded to the outside surfaces of the teeth and may be clear, ceramic or metallic (with or without colours which may be changed at each visit).
However, braces do not have to be the metal brackets and stainless-steel wires you might be picturing, they can be far more discreet when using ceramic braces with clear or tooth-coloured brackets coupled with white-coated arch wires. Some people prefer traditional, colourful braces.
The colour comes in the small pieces of elastic that work to attach the brackets to the wire and, as this is not a fixed part, it is possible to regularly change the elastic and with it the colour at each appointment.
Lingual braces
Lingual braces go on the inside of teeth making them invisible to the eye of the onlooker.
Although less common for children, these can be a great choice for an aspiring actor or model.
Some adult patients even opt for a combination of labial (outside) braces on the bottom teeth and lingual (inside) braces on the top teeth!
