Although we (as a practice) support Bridge2Aid and Saving Faces as our chosen charities throughout the year, we are fortunate to have members in our teams with hearts so big that they offer up even more of their time for other initiatives.
In September 2018 our lead hygienist, Sarah Gilder, and one of our senior dentists, Ben Molyneux, joined Straumann and over 60 riders for their annual Charity Bike Ride in support of the Mouth Cancer Foundation. The Mouth Cancer Foundation is a charity dedicated to supporting those suffering from, or at risk of, mouth, throat and other head and neck cancers, as well as providing assistance and information on living with mouth cancer for families, friends and carers.
Sarah and Ben put their fitness and endurance to the test by cycling an impressive 500 miles in just five days from Lake Garda to Rome! Together they raised over £5,000 with the help of their family, friends, colleagues but mostly their patients. A big thank you to all your support!
From Europe to Africa
In the same month one of our other hygienists, Courtney Coey, travelled to the other side of the world to join Dentaid in Uganda. Along with 9 other dental volunteers she provided hygiene treatment and dental education in outreach clinics in eastern Africa. Treating up to 150 people a day, one man walked 15 miles from Rwanda with his daughter up to the “clinic in the sky”.
