Dentists cycle for worldwide dental healthcare

Over 70% of the world’s population do not have access to dental treatment. This means that millions of people are living in pain preventing them from leading normal lives attending work, school and looking after their families. Bridge2Aid seek to address this issue with their sustainable training model which passes skills on from volunteer dentists, nurses, hygienists and therapists to local health workers in developing countries.

We at The Dental Surgery support the vision of Bridge2Aid: to enable access to safe emergency dental care for everyone, everywhere. Most recently, three of our Dentists participated in a challenging charity bike ride cycling 450 miles across the Pyrenees in just 5 days. Each stage of the Intercontinental Straumann Charity Bike Ride tested the endurance of Shaun Smith, Simon Nocton and Ben Molyneux. Simon commented, “Although rigorous and difficult at times, being able to raise awareness for such a fantastic cause gave us the motivation to push through each day with a smile!”

Along with Bridge2Aid, addressing oral disease, infection and chronic pain in rural communities is a matter close to our heart. In the UK alone, over 50% of adults have some form of gum disease. With 7 oral hygienists, The Dental Surgery will examine and assess your mouth and provide you with peace of mind and an individual Oral Hygiene Programme. Prevention is better than cure!
